The topside modem uses a robust broadband spread spectrum signaling scheme to serve as a multi-purpose acoustic transponder beacon. It can simultaneously track up to 14 assets while supporting bi-directional data exchange. Compact and lightweight (720g / 1.59 lbs), it can be mounted on a dock or supervisor vessel for flexible deployment.
Powered by the Diver6 Battery Box, the modem connects to the rugged tablet via wired or Bluetooth communication, ensuring stable and reliable system performance.

The Diver Modem consists of two components: the Diver Beacon and the Diver Control Module (DCM). The beacon handles bi-directional acoustic communication with the topside system, while the DCM provides power and DiveCAN connectivity for seamless integration with Shearwater dive computers and devices.
The beacon is mounted to the diver’s air tank, and the DCM is secured to the dive belt or another location that won’t interfere with task performance. Together, the units add less than 3 lbs. of weight in the water, maintaining diver agility and comfort.

Through this integration, Diver6 unlocks exclusive features that enhance diver safety and coordination:
RECALL – Sends a return-to-craft command from the topside. The diver receives real-time range and bearing updates to guide them back to the surface vessel.
ASSIST – Allows a divemaster to direct one diver to assist another, sharing range, bearing, and depth information.
DISTRESS – Enables a diver in need to alert the divemaster and receive bearing and range guidance back to safety.
RETURN HOME – Allows a diver to request navigation assistance back to the surface vessel.
SEND ASSIST – A diver can request support from another diver through the divemaster.
Tank Pressure Monitoring – Real-time air supply data is transmitted topside, giving divemasters greater situational awareness and control.
The Topside Battery Unit provides reliable power and data connectivity between the Topside Modem and the tablet computer. Housed in a rugged, water-resistant enclosure, the unit features a dedicated on/off switch and MIL-STD locking connectors to ensure secure, consistent power and data transmission in demanding operational environments.
